VIDEO: What’s In YOUR ‘Wallet’?

Where your Mind is, there is your heart—and there is your real treasure

I share a personal encounter with three priests, leading to a reflection on the idea that what has our attention has our mind, and ultimately our heart. Drawing on Jesus' teachings, I urge you to consider the question, 'What's in your treasury’ or the things you pay attention to, talk about, and focus on. We often find that what we believe to be valuable is not as significant as we think. We need to ask God to reveal the true contents of our treasury and to multiply it with genuine virtues and holiness. Take this opportunity for self-examination and spiritual growth.

Recently, I had an unexpected encounter—it was one of those days where the ordinary becomes extraordinary. By chance, I found myself overhearing conversations between three priests. Each was separate, each deep in discussion, speaking about saints, holy readings, and the like. But strikingly absent from their topics was the chatter that seems to dominate Catholic circles these days—the trial and conviction of Archbishop Vigano for canonical crimes.

This brought me to a reflection that I often carry close: where your attention goes, so too does your mind, and in turn, your heart. And as Jesus Christ so wisely put it in the Gospels, "Where your heart is, there is your treasure." It’s a simple truth but one loaded with depth. What has your attention has your mind, and what has your mind has your heart. So, where is your treasure? What truly resides in your treasury?

These priests, conversing in their separate corners, reminded me that the heart of their focus was holiness and sacredness. Their conversation inspired me—I began questioning what fills my treasury. Am I giving my attention to holy things? In our everyday lives, it’s the ordinary acts—serving our family, helping others, even strangers—that count as holy acts. And yes, it extends to thoughts of God, eternal matters, and prayer.

Here’s a self-reflective exercise I want to share with you, one that comes from experience. Ask God to reveal your treasury to you. Ask Him, "Lord, what is in my treasury?" Prepare yourself for what might be a humbling revelation. We often imagine our treasury overflowing with virtues, holiness, or knowledge. But many of us might find that what we hold is not real riches but perhaps Monopoly money—a semblance of value rather than true worth. For most, even those striving for holiness, our treasures might only contain a few real pennies.

Upon finding what’s there, cherish it. Whether it’s a penny’s worth of genuine virtue or holiness, hold it tight. Ask God to multiply it, turn that penny into something of great value. Holiness, virtue, righteousness, truth—these are the riches we should seek to fill our treasuries with. Be humble enough to see what lies within and ask for increase. It’s not about the volume but the genuine value.

So I leave you with this thought: what truly resides in your heart? What is your treasure? Often, it’s not what we think it is. It’s not about what we can confidently say aloud or even fully understand in our minds. It’s about what we genuinely hold in our hearts, perhaps fragments, perhaps fleeting thoughts. Ask the Lord to show you your true treasure and to multiply it.

Thank you for being with me on this journey of reflection. May God bless you and be with you always. And if you have a moment, please say a Hail Mary for me and my family. God bless.
